My work focuses on vulnerable populations, both in the US and in sub-Saharan Africa. Currently I lead a project called Global Action in Nursing (GAIN) to promote nursing leadership and clinical skill development in Africa. Clinical content of the GAIN project is led by in-country partners and may include maternal neonatal health, cancer risk, and other NCDs. In addition, I am a member of the Institute for Global Health Sciences Director's Executive Team where I work closely with leadership to establish core faculty support and quality of care in LMICs.

My research focuses on the social and health system factors underlying disparities in reproductive, maternal, neonatal, and child health (RMNCH). I am particularly interested in how RMNCH outcomes are shaped by quality of care in health facilities as well as by social determinants. I also seek to contribute to improved measurement of quality of care, particularly person-centered care, and to the development of evidence-based interventions to improve RMNCH outcomes and reduce disparities.
