Monica Getahun, MPH

Research Program Director
M_ObGyn-MFM-Core-MFM

As a Research Program Director in the Institute for Global Health Sciences at UCSF, my work cuts across the areas of maternal health, person-centered care, HIV/AIDS, and COVID-19. My research has focused on leveraging social science approaches and methodologies to explore the pathways of complex interventions and their impact on patients, providers, and the broader community. My topical/content areas include mental health, alcohol and substance abuse, incentives/economic interventions, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), treatment as prevention (TasP), food insecurity, and water/climate & health. I hold an MPH and PMP, which have provided me with the skills to effectively manage research and operations for large programs. I oversee research operations in Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, and Guinea and collaborate with diverse stakeholders across SSA.
