Maya Blum, MPH
Project Director, Beyond the Pill Program
Ms. Blum directs and manages research, training and education activities for Beyond the Pill. Her work focuses on promoting reproductive health through innovation and rigorous research. She has extensive experience designing, implementing and managing research projects in the US and internationally. She has served as the US-based project director for a collaborative research program on abortion and contraceptive care in Nepal for 10 years. She also directed a state-wide mystery-client study to evaluate family planning services (California), and a NIH-funded multi-country study that fielded national probability surveys and qualitative in-depth interviews with contraceptive providers (South Africa, Zimbabwe, US). Ms. Blum has lived overseas in Africa, Asia and Latina America, including as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Sao Tome and Principe. Her current projects are training health care providers and educators on intrauterine devices and implants, promoting student access to contraception at community colleges, evaluating the impact of training and education on student and patient outcomes, and assessing the safety of pharmacy provision of medication abortion in Nepal.
