International Family Planning Leadership Program (IFPLP)

Funded by the Gates and Packard Foundations, and in cooperation with the Public Health Institute and UC Berkeley, this program brings mid-career professionals from diverse disciplines to the United States for a four-week course in reproductive health, followed by ongoing technical support in the field. This program is designed to identify, support, and help sustain leaders who are committed to family planning and reproductive health programs in their countries. A course taught in English includes fellows from Nigeria, Ethiopia, India, Sudan, Pakistan, and the Philippines; and a Spanish language course includes fellows from Southern Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala. The program aims to develop and enhance the abilities of leaders in family planning – providing them with scientific knowledge of reproductive health technology, skills relating to program management, and evaluation and leadership training that will help them rise to higher levels of responsibility in their countries. The overall goal of the program is to support efforts to make reproductive health choices and services more available and accessible in selected program countries.
