Fellowship in Family Planning

The Fellowship in Family Planning is the only fellowship in the nation that provides the opportunity to develop high-level research and clinical skills in contraception and abortion.

The objective of the program is to develop specialists focused on research, teaching and clinical practice in contraception and abortion. Working with respected and innovative leaders in the field, fellows receive training in clinical and epidemiologic research, develop clinical and teaching skills, have opportunities to work internationally, and connect to a rapidly expanding network of family planning experts. During the two-year program, fellows have the option of pursuing either a master's degree in Public Health or Science. Fellows receive a stipend, health insurance and loan repayment assistance. If you want to conduct family planning research, hold a senior position in academia, or be a leader in national or international family planning, the Fellowship in Family Planning will give you the necessary training and network.

Specifically, the Fellowship focuses on:

CLINICAL TRAINING

  • All methods of pregnancy termination
  • All diagnostic methods to confirm uterine and tubal pregnancy
  • Anesthesia and pain control
  • Ultrasonography related to contraception and abortion
  • Treatment of complications
  • All methods of contraception currently available and under investigation
  • Sterilization
  • Gynecologic surgery
  • Practices, policies and research relating to international contraception and abortion

RESEARCH

  • Study design
  • Grant writing
  • Statistical analysis
  • Opportunity for structured clinical research
  • Guidance in obtaining funding for research studies in contraception and abortion
  • Writing for peer-reviewed journals
  • Presenting at national conferences
  • Development as an independent researcher and teacher.
