Philip Darney receives William K. Rashbaum, MD Award
Congratulations to Dr. Philip Darney, the Bixby Center's founding director, who received the William K. Rashbaum, MD, Abortion Provider Award from Physicians for Reproductive Health.The award "honors a physician who provides outstanding abortion services and serves as an inspirational leader for colleagues, residents, and medical students." As Distinguished Professor, Emeritus, in the UCSF Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences, Dr. Darney has been deeply committed to training the next generation of women's health providers and researchers.
He is the author of more than 300 scientific papers, scholarly reviews and book chapters on contraception and gynecology and five books on family planning. He has conducted clinical and acceptability trials of implant, injectable and oral contraceptives, contragestins and intrauterine devices. Dr. Darney has previously been recognized by the American Public Health Association, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Society of Family Planning and Planned Parenthood for his contributions to family planning research and training.
