Dr. Thiel de Bocanegra is Associate Professor at the UCSF Bixby Center. From 2005 to 2016, she was director of the evaluation of California’s Family Planning, Access, Care, and Treatment (PACT) program. She conducted studies to estimate the program’s impact, including improvements in access to contraceptive care and appropriate birth spacing. She is currently part of the UCSF California Preterm Birth Initiative research team, exploring women’s preferences and the availability of postpartum contraception. Her other work includes a medical chart review of the quality of family planning services among managed care providers, an intervention to increase providers' adherence to cervical cancer screening guidelines, and studies on access to care among immigrant high school youth and refugee women.
