Job Summary The purpose of this position is the coordination of a broad spectrum of research activities focusing on HIV and malaria research studies and clinical trials conducted in Tororo, Uganda. The person in this position has the primary responsibility of oversight of the running of day-to-day research activities of the studies on site in Uganda. This person will have additional responsibilities in protocol training and implementation, regulatory compliance according to internationally recognized ethical principles and GCP regulations, and working with the data team ensuring data quality. This person will act as a liaison between Clinical Trials Coordinator, Investigators, international contract employees, outside contracted laboratories, as well as regulatory officials. In addition, this position will require a 3-6 month stay in San Francisco at the start of the position to assist with the IND application and protocol and SOP development; will also perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications BA/BS with a major in a related field and four years of experience in administrative analysis or operations research; willingness to live in Africa (Tororo, Uganda); willingness to live in San Francisco for first 3-6 months; strong computer skills and technical knowledge of software applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and Access; excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills; excellent organizational skills; time and resource management are essential for this position. Physical Demands: requires climbing stairs; pushing/pulling more than 50 pounds; sitting, standing, walking; carrying/lifting 31-60 pounds; may be exposed to tuberculosis, blood, body fluids or tissue, and temperature variations. Note: Fingerprinting and background check required.
Preferred Qualifications Masters degree in public health, epidemiology, or the equivalent; previous experience in a clinical research trial; proficiency in GCP, ICH guidelines and regulatory procedures; overseas experience.
