We would like to call your attention to an amazing event that is being held on April 30th. Two extraordinary photographers, Mark Tuschman and Susan Rae Ross are donating their exquisite work to benefit the Safe Motherhood Project, and mothers worldwide.
Powerful images of women from around the world have been captured by the two talented artists and will be available for purchase. This event will allow us to honor mothers here in the United States and in developing countries with the gift of life. By buying one of the beautiful photographs, or dedicating one of the LifeWraps to your mother or a mother as a Mother's Day gift, or simply by making a donation, you will be contributing to life-saving work in Africa and India.
Death in childbirth is the number one killer of women of reproductive age in developing countries. Every year over 500,000 girls and women die needlessly of complications related to childbirth. Obstetric hemorrhage is the number one cause of maternal mortality. Lack of skilled birth attendants, poor transportation, lack of infrastructure, and understaffed/understocked hospitals all cause delays which increase women's risks of dying from hemorrhage.
My team has been researching and implementing a radical new garment which is used for women suffering from hemorrhage - the LifeWrap. This simple device is portable, inexpensive, reusable… and it saves lives. With every donation, you will help support the distribution of LifeWraps to thousands of women. Additionally, the woman (or women) you choose to honor will receive a beautiful photo gift card letting them know of your donation.

Suellen Miller PhD, CNM, is the Director of Safe Motherhood Programs at UCSF. Dr. Miller is a certified nurse midwife and a clinician with 30 years of international practice and extensive experience in maternal health advocacy, education, research, program & policy development.
